The Green Clean
A broom’s bristles are usually made from man-made fibres:
PVC = Poly Vinyl Chloride
PP = Poly Propylene
or PET = Poly Ethylene Terephtalate
The most commonly used material for bristles is PVC. However the
production and chemistry of this substance is under public discussion
and is perceived as being environmentally unfriendly. So much so
that PVC baby toys are banned in the European Union.
Vileda does not use PVC in any of its brooms; instead itopts for
the much more sound material of recycled PET. Made from recycled
bottle chip polyester, PET is not only better for the environment
but also offers a superior clean.
Tested against PVC and PP, PET proved it outshone the rest in terms
of resistance of wear and tear. An added bonus: PET electro-statically
charges whilst in use, making it possible to attract even more dust. |
